Dave called the meeting to
order. Minutes from January 14, 2009
were read, amended and approved. Dave
reviewed recent SEGCA/SEG Foundation goals and recent activities for the
visitors.
Nan reviewed the proposed
changes in the bylaws. A suggestion was made to
add a section to allow email voting and
then send them out to all members for approval.
Rosemarie reported there is
$4,841.46 in the checking accounts.
Dues for 2010 are now due.
Nan and Dan also reported on
grant writing. Pepsi’s new Refresh
Everything Grants were discussed.
Dave suggested that Sue pursue a grant funded by the Richardson Foundation.
Dave asked for volunteers to join
the grant writing committee.
Dave said that Darin also has some leads on grants.
Nan reported that consideration is being given to how to
manage a list of emails. She has
been removing all streets that are not in SEGC.
Several people discussed other email lists that were available.
Dave asked
for volunteers to help with this effort.
Dave and Dan reported on the FOSAP. The previous monthly meeting educated the group about existing commercial zoning. The February meeting was canceled due to bad weather. The March 1st meeting will cover city water/sewer and roads in the planning area. Dan also reported on the survey results completed during January on the new Dollar General planned in Forest Oaks Commons. Dan also reported that DOT plans to lower the speed limit on Liberty Road between Harmont Drive and Methodist Road.
Harold reported that little has been done on the Alamance Ball Park walking trail due to the bad weather.
Nan reported the October 9th will be the date for the 2010 Fun Fest. She held the first organizational meeting on January 28th. Tom, Jean, Bob, Jennie and Nan attended. The next meeting will be 2/18/2010. Connie Thompson will also be the liaison to SEBA. Tom mentioned that Haganstone will be spending 1.3 MM on improvements in the near future. Nan reported that the group is looking for a charitable cause for this year’s event. Several ideas were discussed. Chad & Kristi Gaines and the Blenders will provide music.
Dave reported about efforts to rid the SEGC area of the
blighted Forest Oaks Shopping Center.
Dave has contacted several people about joining the group.
Dave plans to call the first meeting in March.
Dave stressed this property is holding back interest in SEGC and this
should be high priority for SEGCA/Foundation.
The property is for sale at a price of $3.4MM.
The tax value is $2.8 MM.
They paid 1.2 MM for the property.
The market value is far less. There
was conversation about possibilities. There
is a new church named New Journey Church in Greensboro who is looking for a
larger church property.
Dave is meeting with Pastor Bruce Johnson who also has a commercial real
estate background to discuss the property.
